Finland is one of Europe’s leading study destinations, internationally recognised for its high-quality education system, research-driven universities, technological innovation and student-centred learning environment. Finnish universities and universities of applied sciences offer a wide range of English-taught programmes, internationally recognised qualifications, scholarship opportunities and excellent post-study career pathways. Pakistani students applying for studies lasting more than 90 days must obtain a Finnish residence permit for studies. The application is submitted online; however, applicants must travel to Doha, Qatar, for identity verification, biometrics and document submission at VFS Global Doha.
Visa requirements
For studies lasting more than 90 days, Pakistani applicants must apply for a Finnish Residence Permit for Studies, rather than an ordinary student visa. Core Documents Valid passport Finnish university or university of applied sciences admission letter Completed residence-permit application through Enter Finland Residence-permit application fee payment Proof of tuition-fee payment, scholarship or tuition-fee waiver Proof of sufficient financial resources Personal bank statement covering the previous six months Valid private health insurance Academic certificates and transcripts English-language proficiency evidence Passport-size photographs meeting Finnish requirements Previous education and employment documents, where applicable Accommodation information, where available Additional documents requested by Migri, VFS or the Finnish mission Academic Document Attestation and Legalisation Academic documents should be: Attested by the relevant Pakistani authority, such as IBCC for school qualifications Attested by HEC for higher-education qualifications Legalised or apostilled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan, where required Translated by an authorised translator when documents are not issued in an accepted language The university or Finnish authority may request verification, legalisation or additional institution-specific documentation. Financial Documents Applicant’s personal bank statement covering the previous six months Minimum living funds of €9,600 for one year Additional funds for any unpaid tuition fee Bank account maintenance certificate, where useful Evidence showing the source of funds Tuition-fee payment receipt Scholarship or tuition-waiver confirmation, where applicable Sponsor’s income and financial documents, where relevant Sponsorship affidavit or undertaking, where applicable Sponsor’s salary slips, employment letter, tax documents or business documents Evidence of relationship between the applicant and sponsor The required living funds should normally be available in an account acceptable under Migri’s current financial-evidence rules. Merely presenting a sponsor’s bank balance may not replace the applicant’s required personal funds. Academic requirements
Bachelor’s Degree HSSC or equivalent qualification Recommended minimum: 60% marks Relevant subject background where required Applicants may need to complete an entrance examination, SAT, International UAS Exam, interview or programme-specific assessment Competitive programmes may require higher grades Master’s Degree Recognised Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field Recommended minimum: 2.5 CGPA or 55% marks Relevant academic background Universities of applied sciences commonly require relevant post-Bachelor’s work experience Programme-specific prerequisites may apply PhD / Doctoral Studies Relevant Master’s degree Strong academic and research profile Detailed research proposal Availability and acceptance of a suitable research supervisor or doctoral programme Compliance with the university’s doctoral admission and funding requirements Doctoral admission is subject to the availability of appropriate supervision and formal university approval.
English requirements
Requirements vary by institution and programme. Commonly accepted evidence includes: IELTS Academic: generally 6.0–6.5 TOEFL iBT PTE Academic Cambridge English qualifications Previous education completed in English, where accepted University-approved entrance examination or interview, where applicable Selected institutions may accept alternative English-language evidence, but applicants should not be marked automatically eligible without checking the specific programme’s admission criteria.
Financial requirements
Applicants must demonstrate: At least €800 per month for living expenses At least €9,600 for a one-year residence permit Sufficient funds for any unpaid tuition fee Valid health insurance Additional funds for travel to Qatar, residence-permit submission and onward travel to Finland Financial evidence should include a personal bank statement covering the previous six months and credible documentation explaining the source of funds. Recommended AFI Financial Capacity: PKR 6– 8 million, depending on tuition fee, scholarship and exchange rate.
